51 people have now been killed in Haiti due to Hurricane Sandy, according to numbers released Sunday by Haiti’s Office of Civil Protection.

Jamaica prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller told the House of Representatives that the early estimated damage from Hurricane Sandy which impacted Jamaica on October 24, amounted to approximately J$3 billion. The worst damage was to the agriculture with damages up to $1.5 billion, especially to banana, plantain, cocoa, coffee, coconut production, and livestock.

More than 1.5 million people in Haiti could be at risk of food insecurity in 2013 if adequate assistance is not given, according to the United Nations.
