At 4:32 AM Sunday, January 16th, 2022, a light magnitude 4.0 (Mt) earthquake occurred approximately 59 kilometers east-southeast of Fort-de-France, Martinique, 69 kilometers northeast of Castries, Saint Lucia, and 128 kilometers southeast of Roseau, Dominica. This event was located at 14.490°N and 60.560°W at a depth of 16 kilometers. This information is from the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre (UWI SRC), the authority for seismic and volcanological information in the Eastern Caribbean.

The Guyana government confirmed that 15 children have died as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, since the country recorded its first case of the virus in March 2020. Overall, Guyana has registered 1,905 deaths and 51,203 infections linked to the virus.

Barbados : There were 652 new COVID-19 cases - 296 males and 356 females – recorded on Monday, January 17, from the 2,503 tests.
As at January 17, there were 271 deaths from the virus.
The public health laboratory has carried out 506,309 tests since February 2020, and recorded 36,386 COVID-19 cases (17,201 males and 19,185 females).
Under the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19, the total number of persons with at least one dose is 157,721 (69.1 per cent of the eligible population). The total number of persons who are fully vaccinated is 146,155 (53.9 per cent of the total population or 64 per cent of the eligible population). Jamaica Ministry of Health and Wellness has reported a record high of 1,968 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday January 15, bringing the infection total to 112,218. The new cases comprise 1,135 females and 833 males with ages ranging from nine days to 95 years. Eight deaths were reported, bringing the total to 2,530. There were 96 recoveries in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 67,142.

A total of 415 people, 191 males and 224 females, tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, January 21. The public health laboratory has carried out 514 541 tests since February 2020 and recorded 38 586 COVID-19 (17 947 males and 20 639 females) cases. As at January 21, there were 274 deaths from the virus. The number of people who are fully vaccinated is 146 319 (54 per cent of the total population or 64.1 per cent of the eligible population).
